Beware of texts or emails from your boss asking you to send money or gift cards!
The scam works like this. You receive an unusual text message or email claiming to be from your boss asking you to send money through a payment app or purchase gift cards.
What you should do
- Don’t trust unsolicited messages from unfamiliar numbers or email addresses.
- Be wary of unusual requests, especially requests involving money or confidential information.
- Check with your boss personally. Call, text, or email your boss using the regular phone number or email address you have on file to find out whether the request is legitimate.
- If you suspect a scam, don’t reply. Don’t click links or download attachments. Block the number and delete the message.
